OVERVIEW

Unmind is a B2B workplace wellbeing company that provides tools and services to help both individuals and organizations thrive.

MY ROLE

As Director of User Experience, I lead a team of product designers and user researchers across multiple cross-disciplinary product teams. I collaborate closely with leaders in product, engineering, data, marketing, and science to drive strategic decision-making, ensuring that quality of the user experience remains high. I ensure that product teams are equipped with the insights and tools they need to make informed decisions that align with business goals.

DESIGN EXCELLENCE
In 2023, inline with shift in our proposition, we completed a rebrand in collaboration with Ragged Edge, a London-based marketing agency.  We worked closely to define a brand new identity inline with our new mission.

From the company rebrand, we created a product design system with the aim of speeding up both design and development delivery and ensuring a consistent user experience across our solutions.

WELLBEING FOR EMPLOYEES

01 RESEARCH

We conducted extensive qualitative and quantitative research, working closely with the science team to understand the challenges employees face in their work environments. Through workshops with stakeholders, we identified four primary user archetypes:

  • Curious Skimmer: Seeks quick fixes for specific problems.

  • The Pragmatist: Sceptical about mental health with limited understanding, yet curious to learn more.

  • Mental Health Enthusiast: Actively engages with wellbeing practices and is knowledgeable about mental health.

  • Feelings Fighter: Reluctant to seek help publicly but willing to explore mental health resources privately.

WELLBEING FOR
ORGANISATIONS

01 RESEARCH

We interviewed HR leaders responsible for employee wellbeing to understand their needs, which centred on increasing awareness, engagement, and making data-driven decisions regarding employee wellbeing. We identified two primary archetypes:

  • The Quick-Win Seeker, who typically focusses on the short term, reactive goals: avoiding employees going off sick, ensuring performance stays at a maximum.

  • The Strategiser, who typically focusses on building a long term wellbeing strategy. They have started to think more holistically about wellbeing, looking at the culture and environment of the workplace.

02 PRIMARY OPPORTUNITY

HR leaders want a unified platform that combines both qualitative and quantitative data, making it easier to assess and act on employee wellbeing insights.

03 SOLUTION

We developed a survey and analysis tool that provides HR teams with insights into employee wellbeing, including absenteeism, presenteeism, and burnout, with anonymized data to ensure employee privacy. The data can be segmented by team and location, and benchmarking tools allow organizations to compare their results against others in their industry.

IMPACT

The tool has been adopted by 34 clients, including Bain, KPMG, and Uber, with surveys conducted for groups as large as 2,500 employees. Several clients have run the survey multiple times, and we expect to see continued improvements in employee wellbeing as more data is collected.
